loooooooooooooooooooooooong emails

Long emails are the best ... and long snail mail, too... you know the ones, where someone takes the time to babble on and reply to every point you made in your previous email and goes on for pages and pages?  Yeah, those are awesome and I always appreciate and love my friends for doing that... and it's always so much fun to look back at old correspondence and remember the ridiculous inside jokes going on in the past.  You amazing people know who you are.

Hoorah for long emails and long-email-writer-friends!!

We're just doing it for God's glory...

Ok, that ^^[the title of this post]^^ is the lamest excuse of all time for the mediocre works of Christians.
Colossians 3:23 CLEARLY states that we are to do our BEST for God and not for people.

How many times have I heard people practice for some performance in Christian settings/circles
and they don't sit down and actually work the long, long, long hours
to make it beautiful, heartfelt, well-done, and obvious that the performers had tried hard to honor their God.

It's because you're doing it for God that you MUST make it perfect,
or at least to the best of your ability.
Don't give up,
allow mistakes unrectified,
and just leave it "at that"
saying, "It's ok [if we stink],
because we're doing it for God and His glory and not for ourselves."

UUGGHH, it makes me feel so frustrated when people do that.
I mean, go ahead,
admit you're tired and you're not doing the best you should,
but for the love of all that is good,
DO NOT USE THAT EXCUSE!

Dude!  People at the bottom or in the audience could care less if you messed up here and there
(assuming this is a true Christian audience),
but if your sloppy presentation is due to your slacking off
when you feel bored or tired or hopeless,
don't slip into the lie that since your apathy won't judged by Christians, you're off the hook.

Doing a lousy job does NOT honor God,
whether the crowd pays you or not.

Ok, so maybe you as leader or even a participant didn't manage your time well this time,
and you were already working into the wee hours of the morning,
and it just didn't work out
(which I doubt if your heart was truly right that God would let such hard work go to waste like that),
but if you continue to mismanage your time
in service to God or anything really
(whether other people can see it or not),
you've either got too much on your plate
(but everybody says, if you need to get something done, give it to a busy person!)
OR some serious attitude issues.

In either case, you need to fix the situation.   By the way, I'm ranting at the latter.

Unexpected hereditary stuff...

So evidently, I sneeze just like my maternal grandmother did, and every time I sneeze, I remind my mother of her.  Who knew that sneezing methods could be passed down through the generations?

Sadly, I never met this wonderful woman who died before my mother got married.  I never met my maternal grandfather either, and he died before my uncle even started college!  My uncle is 8 years younger than my mother.

Speaking of my uncle, he and my mother are SO alike, it's not even funny.  One instance was when my uncle was shivering at the ice rink because he was waiting in shorts and a t-shirt.  He shivered JUST LIKE MY MOM DOES. Weird... I mean it's really cool scientifically, but how in the world does that work?  They've only seen each other for a total of 11 weeks (half of which was spent conquering 12-hour jet lag) in the past twenty-one (21) years!  My uncle is like the male clone of my mother physically, psychologically, emotionally, verbally, etc.  How do they do that being 8 years apart?! It boggles my mind.  The worst part is that they don't even think or know so!

Metrics and Money

My family is beginning to be confused with bytes, kilobytes, megabytes, etc.

Those unit prefixes can be confusing, I suppose...

What if... though...

we did that with dollars!?

Then, a grand would be a kilodollar.
A million dollars would be a megadollar (haha, that one's pretty practical).
A billion dollars would be a gigadollar...
A trillion dollars would be a teradollar!

(The amount of red-underline as I write up this post is atrocious...)

Annnd, I don't think there's a prefix yet for a quadrillion number... though, they'll need to make up one soon for when our memory cards and hard drives contain much higher capacities!  It's soooo funny to look at my parents' old floppy disks and wonder how they hold so much data in just a few kilobytes.

*shrugs and sighs*  Aaaahhhh, the joys of technology and numbers!

Sleepless nights

Ok, so for most people my age, it's probably strange to say I didn't sleep last night and I wish I did.  As it, I'm not a teen anymore, so no more bed times!  I'm an ADULT.  Right?

But, what can I say?  I like my brainy-over-analytical-ambitious-geeky slumber.

Seriously, though, I can't drink tea too late in the day.  Not even a tiny sip.  I put the cup to my lips last night at about 10pm, engulfed a mouthful, realized it was caffienated when my eyes lit up, and ... [yuck]... spit it out.  Too much information?  Let me know, and I'll go back to my boring self.  Just so you pity me, I didn't feel the least bit tired until this morning at 1am-ish when I got tired of not being tired.  Fortunately, I got up at a sane hour (7am) not too tired, so I don't feel too whiney, hehheh.

socializing... not much = unhealthy?

This was supposed to be posted last night, but it didn't format correctly on my phone... so, I'm posting today.

Awhile ago, at my Dr.'s physical check-up, the nurse asked me, "Do you hangout with friends and peers much?"
Me thinking for second:
"Nope, not really...

... well, some with my online friends."

Wow, I felt like a dork after saying that.

But, honestly, there aren't many godly peers in my area.  Thank God, I have several great friends all over the country who go against the flow. I just really need to spend more time fellowshipping with them.

Additionally, my mother has never been one for me hanging out and having fun. She's not completely anti-fun, but nigh close and very practical.  So, this might seem harsh, but I agree with her.  I only have one life and who knows how short it is.  I only have so much time to make the impact I should be making.

Now I'm off to do something productive...
like sleeping...
you really should, too.

Trees

The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago...
The 2nd best time is today.
~Chinese Proverb

SO TRUE!
And it applies to all endeavors with tangible or intangible lasting results.
